New Delhi, May 9 (). New changes have been approved in the uniform of the officers of the Indian Army. Under this approval, from August this year, all officers of the rank of brigadier and above in the army will wear a uniform. Currently, different military officers wear different uniforms denoting their respective regiments. However, there has been no change in the uniform worn by officers of the rank of Colonel and below.
This significant change in the army uniform means that para officers will no longer wear the maroon cap after reaching the rank of brigadier, nor will armored officers wear their distinctive belt.
According to the information, the headgear, shoulder rank badge, georgette patch, belt and shoes of officers of the flag rank i.e. Brigadier and above will now be standardized and uniform. According to information, apart from this, flag-rank officers will also not wear lanyards.
It is worth mentioning that last month a meeting of army commanders was held to take such important decisions. Meanwhile, this decision has been taken after deliberations and extensive consultations with all the stakeholders.
It has been argued for this decision that this uniform for officers of the rank of brigadier and higher in the Indian Army will ensure a common identity for all senior rank officers, reflecting the ethos of the army. Significantly, the different types of uniforms and decorations have a specific relationship with the respective arms, regiments and services in the Indian Army.
At the same time, the officers also believe that this recognition with specific recognition within the Arms or Regiment or Services is necessary for junior leadership and rank and file, so as to further strengthen brotherhood, esprit de corps and regimental ethos, which Soldiers are the cornerstone. At the unit or battalion level, a distinct sense of identity reflects a strong bond between officers and men in the same regiment.
However, once an officer becomes a Brigadier, he/she joins the general pool of senior officers. For example, a general officer or one of the engineers may actually command an infantry brigade or a division.
The Army had last year introduced new digitally printed combat uniforms for all its personnel. In this there is no tucking in the shirt, unlike the previous style. The trousers also have additional pockets keeping in mind the convenience of the soldier. The material chosen for the clothing is light yet strong and suitable for both summer and winter.
