New Delhi, May 29 (). Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni arrived in New Delhi on Monday on his first state visit to India.
He was received at the airport by Minister of State for External Affairs Rajkumar Ranjan Singh.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted, an opportunity to further deepen civilizational ties between India and Cambodia.
Raja Sihamoni will stay in India for three days.
The state visit marks the culmination of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Cambodia in 1952, said a statement issued by the ministry.
Cambodia The visit of a king to India is taking place after almost six decades. Earlier in 1963 the present emperor’s father had come here.
King Sihamoni will be accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday and President Draupadi Murmu will host a state banquet in his honor later that evening.
King’s President Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and External Affairs Minister S. There will also be bilateral meetings with Jaishankar.
He will pay floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.
India and Cambodia enjoy friendly relations marked by civilizational, cultural and economic ties and deep people-to-people ties, the ministry statement said. The multi-faceted relationship is based on shared cultural values, commitment to promote economic development, cooperation in the field of defense and security, and common ground on regional and global issues.
India has given a grant of $1.5 million to Cambodia for the purchase of mining equipment and a line of credit of $50 million has been offered to purchase defense equipment from India.
Training courses for Cambodian Army personnel are conducted in India and mobile training teams of the Indian Army have been deployed to the South-East Asian nation for training of Cambodian personnel.
For the financial year 2022-23, the trade between the two countries was 366 million dollars, which is increasing continuously. Indian investments in Cambodia are estimated at around $115 million, mainly in pharmaceuticals, automobiles and mining.
In addition, India is also actively assisting Cambodia in capacity building and human resource development through training slots under ITEC and scholarships under ICCR.
