Itanagar, May 22 (). Arunachal Pradesh BJP vice-president Tehar Tarak has said that there has been no encroachment or intrusion in the state since 1962 by the Chinese army or civilians.
Arunachal Pradesh shares a 1,129-km border with China’s Tibet.
A team of 10 BJP leaders started the border yatra in Anjaw sector on 22 December 2022 and ended their yatra in Tawang sector on 24 April this year. Local leaders of the party had joined the yatra.
Addressing the media, Tarak said that during the visit he interacted with Army and Indo-Tibetan Border Police personnel deployed along the LAC as well as people living in border villages.
“We found that the situation on the border is normal and peaceful,” he said.
He said that according to the villagers, no encroachment or intrusion is visible on the Indian land by China.
But the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) soldiers sometimes unknowingly or by mistake enter Indian territory during patrolling and Indian Army soldiers challenge them and drive them away, the BJP leader said.
Tarak said that he decided to visit on 9 December 2022 after a skirmish between Chinese and Indian troops on the LAC in Yangtse in Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh. This attack created an uproar in the whole country.
Some soldiers of both India and China suffered minor injuries during the skirmish.
However, the two sides parted ways within a few days. A similar incident took place in October 2021, when a large PLA patrol team was detained for a few hours by the Indian Army near the Yangtse. Our effort was to salute the jawans guarding the border in these circumstances.
He said, on 2 September 2020, five youths who went hunting were picked up by the PLA from Sera-7 in Upper Subansiri district. He was later released after a few days in Anjaw district.
On 18 January 2022, a youth was abducted at gunpoint from Lungta Jor forest in Upper Siang district. He was released on January 28 this year.
