Bhubaneswar, May 25 (). Leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in the Odisha Assembly, Narsingh Mishra, on Thursday strongly criticized Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik over the BJD’s decision to attend the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament House in Delhi.
Talking to media persons, Mishra said that the opposition parties have decided to boycott the inauguration ceremony as Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has decided to inaugurate the building for cheap political mileage.
The new Parliament building should be inaugurated by Draupadi Murmu, the first civilian President of India so that the prestige of the President is not hurt and the mandate of the people is not ignored, he said.
Mishra said that Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had called Murmu his sister and tribal daughter of the soil during the presidential election and lobbied for her candidature.
Where is his sister, tribal daughter and his love for Odisha now, the Congress leader questioned.
With this decision, Naveen has proved that he will always follow Modi’s wishes, he said. I condemn his decision, which is against the constitutional practices and against Odisha.
Reacting to the issue, senior BJD MLA Amar Prasad Satpathy said, “The decision of our Chief Minister is very clear. All our MPs will attend the inauguration of the new Parliament House. We respect the constitution and democracy. Our constitution has given special importance to the parliament. So, we should not do politics at least on the day of inauguration.
Apart from this, Satpathy said it is the prerogative of the Lok Sabha Speaker to invite or not. So, everyone should follow the decision of the Speaker.
The BJD leader accused the Congress of doing politics on an issue which is not even an issue. He also questioned the role of the Congress during the presidential election.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has welcomed the BJD’s decision to participate in the important event.
Pradhan said, not any one party but everyone had fought for the freedom of India. We may have different ideologies and political views. But all those who believe in democracy must rise to the occasion. I welcome the decision of BJD.
