Bengaluru, May 13 (). Congress has taken lead in four out of five seats in Chikkamagaluru district, considered a BJP bastion. In the backdrop of the Datta Peeth movement, Hindutva activists refer to this area as the Ayodhya of Karnataka.
The BJP had won all the five seats in the communally divided district in the last election. The district comprises Sringeri, Mudigere, Chikkamagalur, Tarikere and Kadur constituencies.

BJP’s DN Devaraj got 12,747 votes and INC’s TD Raje Gowda got 15,425 votes in Sringeri seat. In Mudigere, according to official figures, BJP candidate Deepak Doddaiah got 15,293 votes and Congress candidate Nayana Mottamma got 14,000 votes.
G h. Congress’s Srinivas got 20,563 votes in Tarikere seat, while BJP candidate DS Suresh got 17,917 votes. Congress candidate got 23,352 votes while BJP candidate Belli Prakash got 21,976 votes in Kadur seat.
BJP National General Secretary and sitting MLA C.T. Ravi was trailing behind the Congress candidate. Ravi got 20,473 votes, while his rival Congress candidate H.D. Thamayya got 22,435 votes.
