New Delhi, May 30 (). The Delhi High Court on Tuesday rejected Manish Sisodia’s bail plea in the Excise Policy case.
Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma had reserved the verdict on May 11.
Justice Sharma said the allegations were serious enough that the excise policy was framed at the behest of the South Group with the intention of giving them undue advantage.
Such conduct, the judge said, points to misconduct by someone who is actually a public servant and holds a very high position.
The judge, while denying him bail, also said that Sisodia being an influential person could influence the witnesses.
Justice Sharma said, the allegations are very serious in nature. The accused was a public servant.. We have neither examined the excise policy nor the power of the government. However, the applicant being a powerful person is likely to influence the witnesses.
Sisodia told Special Judge M.K. Nagpal’s March 31 order denying him bail was challenged in the High Court.
Judge Nagpal of the Rouse Avenue Court had prima facie held that Sisodia played a key role in the criminal conspiracy related to the alleged Delhi Excise Policy matter.
The CBI had earlier opposed the bail plea, arguing that the AAP leader is in power and has political clout.
Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on February 26, later by the Enforcement Directorate on March 9.
