New Delhi, May 22 (). Delhi Police has detained 201 people for consuming alcohol in public places. A top official gave this information on Monday.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Harsh Vardhan, a two-day special drive against consumption of alcohol in public places was launched in Dwarka area on Saturday and Sunday. During this, 201 people were caught and a case was registered under 40-A Excise Act.
The aim, he said, was to create a safe public space for all. The teams were formed under the supervision of the concerned Station House Officers and in Dwarka district under the supervision of Assistant Commissioners of Police.
According to the Excise Act, anyone caught drinking alcohol in public is fined Rs 5,000 and public nuisance is also punished with a fine of Rs 10,000 and six months’ imprisonment.
