A group of doctors from Bengaluru commenced a nationwide cycling rally from Kashmir to Kanyakumari on Monday to raise awareness about oral health. The event was inaugurated at the famous Ghanta Ghar in Lal Chowk. “The purpose of the rally is to promote preventive dental care, oral hygiene, and the early detection of oral diseases and oral cancer among the public,” stated the rally organizers. Spanning over 3,600 kilometers through various states, the journey will conclude in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, after approximately 45 days. The cycling team includes dentists and oral health specialists who will provide oral health camps, awareness sessions, and complimentary dental check-ups in different cities and towns along the way.
Particular emphasis will be placed on rural communities and schools, where dental care access is frequently inadequate. Brinda Godhi, a senior dentist from Bengaluru, noted that oral health is often overlooked within the broader public health context. “With this rally, we aim to inform the public about simple yet vital practices such as brushing twice a day, avoiding tobacco, and attending regular dental check-ups. Our cycling across the nation also represents endurance, commitment, and the importance of persistent efforts in public health,” she remarked. The organizers indicated that the team would also share their journey on social media to engage a larger audience and encourage nationwide action.
