The highly awaited period drama Kantha, featuring Dulquer Salmaan and Rana Daggubati, is set for a grand theatrical release on November 14. Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, the film also stars Samuthirakani in a significant role and introduces Bhagyashree Borse as the lead actress. Produced jointly by Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films and Rana’s Spirit Media, Kantha has created considerable excitement with its teaser, trailer, and moving soundtrack. During a recent press conference, both actors shared their perspectives on the film’s distinct creative vision. Addressing rumors of it being a biopic, Rana stated, “Kantha is a wholly fictional narrative set in the 1950s, drawing inspiration from the artistic rivalries and creative challenges of that time.
It delves into the darker, passionate aspects of brilliance.” Dulquer emphasized that this project is among the most significant of his career, remarking, “Such opportunities are infrequent. The film recreates an era when art, music, and literature epitomized perfection. This kind of cinema honors our heritage.” The film’s visual and musical components are praised for authentically reflecting the 1950s Madras studio culture. Rana mentioned the use of rare vintage equipment, including cameras from Patala Bhairavi, to enhance the film’s realism. Director Selvamani Selvaraj, cinematographer Dani Sanchez-Lopez, and composer Justin Prabhakaran have crafted a world that blends nostalgia with artistic expression.
With Kantha, Dulquer and Rana aim to deliver an immersive cinematic experience that pays tribute to the golden age of cinema, celebrating art, emotion, and legacy timelessly.
