Google Home Unveils Major Redesign with Gemini Integration

Google is implementing significant hardware and software upgrades as part of a comprehensive update for its smart home ecosystem. New products include the Nest speaker powered by Gemini, an upgraded Nest Doorbell, and enhanced Nest Cams. The most substantial change will occur on October 1, when Gemini is fully integrated into the new Google Home experience. This update will bring an extensive redesign of the Google Home app for Android, featuring a refreshed interface and improved navigation. The code for the upcoming redesign, referred to as Google Home redesign 2025, is already present in version 3.41.50.3 of the software. We have observed early previews of the new interface, highlighted by an updated welcome screen.

The Google Home Gemini AI will take center stage in this update, effectively replacing Google Assistant as the primary AI for the smart home hub. The interface has been streamlined, allowing users to simply ‘Ask Home’ for various tasks, such as automating daily routines, accessing video history, or receiving detailed AI-generated summaries of household activities. Notifications and daily updates will be provided to help users stay informed about their home. On the hardware front, while there are limited updates, the new ‘Google Home Speaker’ is expected to deliver immersive 360-degree audio. Advanced features will require the new ‘Google Home Premium’ subscription.

The app has also seen changes, including the renaming of the Favorites tab to ‘Home’ and the merging of Devices and Settings tabs into one section. Users can now tap the grid icon under ‘All devices’ to see all connected devices. New icons for video controls and temperature regulation are visible in initial screenshots, indicating potential integration with the next-generation Nest lineup.
