Ahmedabad, May 6 (). A total of 11.56 lakh houses have been constructed in Gujarat under the Central Government’s Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. An official gave this information on Saturday.
A total of 7.50 lakh houses have been completed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana’s urban, while more than 4.06 lakh houses have been completed under the rural.
The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015 to provide affordable housing for the urban poor and middle-class families, and was later extended to include rural areas in 2016.
The target of the plan in Gujarat was to construct about 7.64 lakh houses, against which Gujarat has sanctioned 9.54 lakh houses in excess of the target.
Apart from this, the state government announced the Mukhyamantri Protsahak Sahayata Yojana applicable to the beneficiaries who complete the house construction within six months after the payment of the first instalment.
During the year 2022-23 of this scheme, assistance of Rs 45.13 crore was paid to more than 22,500 such beneficiaries. The state government also announced financial assistance of Rs 19.03 crore for construction of bathrooms as well as houses for over 38,000 women beneficiaries during the same period.
