Indore, March 31 (). So far 35 people have died and 18 are undergoing treatment in the accident due to collapse of the stepwell roof in Indore on the occasion of Ram Navami. Army personnel are engaged in relief and rescue operations.
Significantly, on the occasion of Ram Navami, a large number of people had gathered at the Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal temple in Patel Nagar on Thursday and were performing havan-pujan etc. sitting on the terrace of the stepwell. Meanwhile, the roof of the stepwell caved in and the people sitting on it fell down. About 50 people drowned in the water of the stepwell. Since then relief and rescue work is going on. The army was also called in for relief and rescue operations. The search operation went on throughout the night and the process of finding the dead bodies continued.
BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya, who was present at the accident site, told reporters that so far 35 people have died and 18 are injured in the accident.
As soon as the information about the accident was received, the administrative staff and relief rescue team reached the spot and pulled out the people who had fallen in the stepwell with the help of ropes.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has ordered an inquiry into the accident and said that a relief amount of five lakh rupees will be given to the families of those who died in the incident. 50 thousand per injured will be provided along with free treatment of the injured.
