Karnataka will vote on May 10, results on May 13 (Lead-1)

New Delhi, March 29 (). The Election Commission on Wednesday announced the schedule for the Karnataka Assembly elections. The polling will be held on May 10 and the results will be declared on May 13.

The term of the 224-member assembly ends on May 24.

According to Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, the total electorate in Karnataka is 5.2 crore. He informed that the total number of voters above the age of 80 years is 12.15 lakh.

Over 9.17 lakh first time voters will participate in the elections. Under the advance application facility, more than 1.25 lakh applications were received from youth above 17 years of age, of which about 41,000 applications were received from youth above 18 years of age till April 1, 2023.

With the announcement of the election schedule, the model code of conduct has come into force in the state.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar said that urban apathy and misuse of money power are two major issues in the state and appropriate initiatives are being taken in this regard. CEC said, we have directed all enforcement officers on this.

The CEC said that the Election Commission (EC) is strengthening its teams to prevent misuse of money power. He said there would be 2,400 surveillance teams to keep a close vigil and multiple agencies working in synergy and coordination.

Citizens’ awareness and cooperation is vital to ensure free, fair and inducement-free elections. The CEC said that citizens can report any kind of electoral malpractice to the ECI through the cVIGIL app.
