Firozabad (Uttar Pradesh), June 1 (). A 90-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Firozabad district court for his role in the killing of 10 people from the Dalit community 42 years ago. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 55,000 on the accused. If the fine is not paid, 13 more months will be added to the sentence.
According to District Public Prosecutor Firozabad, Rajeev Upadhyay, the murders took place in December 1981 in Sadhpur village under Shikohabad police station area. The village head informed the police about the incident.
The chargesheet was filed in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mainpuri, as Shikohabad was a part of Mainpuri district at the time of the incident.
After the formation of Firozabad district in October 1989, Shikohabad became a part of Firozabad.
However, the hearing of the case continued in the Mainpuri court.
In 2021, the case was transferred to Firozabad District Court. But, by then nine of the 10 accused in the case had died.
Ganga Dayal, the lone surviving accused, was sentenced to life imprisonment by District Judge Harveer Singh.
