Kolkata, June 5 (). West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has canceled her scheduled three-day visit to Darjeeling. Now she will again visit Odisha on Tuesday and take stock of the condition of people from Bengal who were injured in the horrific train accident near Bahanga railway station in Balasore district on Friday evening.
The Chief Minister said on Monday, many people of West Bengal who were injured in the train accident are still undergoing treatment in various hospitals of Odisha. I will go there again to review their condition.
He also said that the identity of all those killed in the accident is yet to be ascertained.
He said, I had also demanded a CBI inquiry into the Dnyaneshwari Express accident during my tenure as Railway Minister. This was because the Maoists were behind the incident. But even after 12 years have passed since then, nothing has happened. The CBI has nothing to do with the latest accident. CBI investigates criminal cases. The Commission of Railway Safety should look into the matter.
On Wednesday, Banerjee will hand over compensation checks on behalf of the state government to the next of kin of those killed or injured in the train accident.
