New Delhi, May 13 (). As many as 99 officials of Tihar Jail were transferred following the killing of gangster Tillu Tajpuria inside the jail by members of a rival gang a few days back, a senior jail official said on Saturday. More transfers of jail officials are likely next week.

The official said that some officers would also be transferred from the jail headquarters. The 99 jail officials transferred include 11 deputy superintendents, 12 assistant superintendents, head warders and warders. The transfers have been ordered by Director General (Prisons) Sanjay Beniwal. Beniwal has considered this incident a very serious matter.

However, the transfer order stated that the transferred officers/employees would continue to draw their pay from where they were drawing earlier. Tajpuria’s killing has prompted the authorities to undertake a comprehensive review of the situation, resulting in a strategic shift in operations and implementation of much-needed reforms on the ground.

The Delhi High Court on Monday sought response from the jail authorities on the steps taken to prevent such incidents. That petition of Justice Jasmeet Singh Tajpuria’s father and brother was heard. The petition demanded a CBI inquiry into the murder and security for him.

On going through the incident captured on CCTV cameras installed inside the jail, Justice Singh said that it was seen that Tajpuria was taken out of his cell and then stabbed to death.

According to video footage, Tajpuria was allegedly attacked with a knife by four members of the Jitendra Gogi gang inside Tihar Jail on May 2. This was the second attack by the accused in Tajpuria.

According to reports, Tajpuria was stabbed more than 90 times by the assailants. Sunil alias Tajpuria, 33, a resident of Tajpur Kalan on the outskirts of Delhi, was kept in Tihar Jail amid tight security.

According to an unverified social media post, gangster Satinder Singh Brar claimed responsibility for the attack on Tajpuria, citing retaliation. Satinder Singh is also known as Goldie Brar. It is being said that Brar is hiding in Canada.
