Mumbai, May 23 (). Nationalist Congress Party state president Jayant Patil will meet party supremo Sharad Pawar on Tuesday, a day after he was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in an alleged money-laundering case related to the IL&FS scam.
Party officials say that on Monday, Patil will inform his party chief about the ED’s questioning which lasted for 9.3 hours.
Earlier in the day, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) ally Shiv Sena (UBT) president and former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray called Patil, though what transpired between them was not known.
Significantly, on Monday late evening (May 22), Pawar criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the Center for openly misusing central investigative agencies to harass and pressure opposition political leaders.
Pawar said, 10 NCP leaders are currently facing action from ED and other agencies. On the other hand, there were a lot of complaints against Param Bir Singh (former police commissioner of Mumbai). That too should have been considered.
Citing the example of his senior party colleague and former state home minister Anil Deshmukh, he said nothing came out of Singh’s complaints of alleged corruption, but he (Deshmukh) unnecessarily spent 13 months in jail.
The Maratha Bahubali leader said that BJP may have some expectations from NCP, but we will not fulfill them. ED officials are questioning Patil.
