Odisha Prepares for Heavy Rain as Storm Approaches Coast

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is set to face very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall on October 28 and 29, as a depression over the Bay of Bengal has strengthened into a deep depression and is gradually moving towards the east coast. Suresh Pujari, the state’s Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, announced that all 30 districts are on high alert, with personnel and equipment on standby for rescue and relief efforts. The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for five districts: Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam. An alert has been issued for the Odisha coastline from Ganjam to Balasore, advising fishermen and the public to remain cautious and avoid going into the sea due to rough conditions.

In light of the situation, seven districts in the southern and coastal regions have canceled government employees’ leave.
