Bhubaneswar: A new low-pressure area has emerged over the southeastern Bay of Bengal as of Friday, with the potential to develop into a cyclonic storm by October 27. This system is expected to bring significant rainfall to Odisha for three days starting Monday. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather system has progressed west-northwest over the past three hours and is anticipated to continue in that direction.
Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre Director Manorama Mohanty indicated that the system is expected to evolve into a depression over the southeast and adjacent central Bay of Bengal by October 25, transforming into a deep depression by October 26, and reaching cyclonic storm status over the southwest and adjacent west-central Bay of Bengal by the morning of October 27. Mohanty noted it is premature to determine if the system will make landfall on the Odisha coast. However, she emphasized that regardless of the landfall location, Odisha is likely to face heavy to extremely heavy rainfall from October 27 to 29.
