OpenAI’s AI-driven video creation app Sora has quickly gained popularity since its launch a few weeks ago, topping the Apple App Store charts in the US and Canada and attracting global attention from AI enthusiasts. Previously, cameos were restricted to individuals who had explicitly consented to appear in user videos. Peebles highlighted that users will soon be able to include their pets, favorite stuffed toys, and other dynamic characters in their creations. Additionally, users will have the ability to incorporate characters generated in prior videos into new projects. The app’s interface will also be updated, featuring a section dedicated to trending cameos, allowing users to discover popular options within the community. In response to user feedback, OpenAI is introducing basic video editing functionalities to Sora. Peebles confirmed that this feature will initially allow users to merge multiple clips into a single video, with plans for more advanced editing tools in future updates.
This development represents a crucial advancement for Sora, transforming it from a simple video generator into a more comprehensive editing suite, thereby granting users greater control over their AI-generated stories. Furthermore, Sora currently offers a global feed displaying trending AI videos, but OpenAI plans to launch communities—dedicated spaces for users to share and collaborate within specific interest groups. These “channels” may serve individuals from the same university, workplace, sports club, or hobby group, facilitating connections based on common interests. Moderation has been a significant topic of discussion regarding Sora, with users expressing concerns over strict content filters that occasionally block creative outputs. Peebles acknowledged this issue and indicated that the team is working to mitigate excessive moderation, emphasizing the importance of balancing safety with creative expression. Lastly, many users have eagerly awaited news regarding an Android version of Sora.
