OTT update: A weekend filled with new streaming releases

This week brings a fresh wave of theatrical hits and new originals to major OTT platforms, offering audiences a varied selection of romantic comedies, thrillers, social satires, and blockbuster spectacles. From Netflix and Prime Video to Aha, ZEE5, and JioHotstar, here’s a detailed overview of everything currently streaming, organized by platform for simpler navigation. Netflix adds a festive romantic comedy to its catalogue with Dude, which originally premiered in theatres during the Diwali season. Directed by debutant Keerthiswaran, the film features Pradeep Ranganathan and Mamitha Baiju in lead roles, with R. Sarathkumar and Rohini providing support.

Available in multiple languages, Dude explores the emotional ups and downs between two childhood friends, Agan and Kural, who manage an event management company together. Kural confesses her love, which Agan initially dismisses—only to later realize he loves her too, but by that time, she has moved on. The film weaves together humour, heartbreak, and the bittersweet complexities of contemporary love. Another emotional drama now streaming on Netflix is Telusu Kada, marking the directorial debut of Neeraja Kona. Starring Siddhu Jonnalagadda, Raashii Khanna, and Srinidhi Shetty, the narrative centers on Varun, a chef who enters into an arranged marriage with Anjali following a painful breakup. Their tranquil life takes a sharp turn when they learn that Anjali cannot conceive.

IVF specialist Dr. Raaga Kumar suggests surrogacy and offers to help—revealing a complicated history, as she is Varun’s former girlfriend. This leads to an intricate emotional triangle, delving into love, trust, and relationships challenged by unforeseen truths. The acclaimed legal franchise returns with Jolly LLB 3, which was released in September and quickly became the highest-grossing film in the series. Now available on Netflix, the film is penned and directed by Subhash Kapoor and reunites Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi as the two iconic “Jollys.” The plot tracks their rivalry evolving into a strong alliance as they confront a corrupt real estate magnate behind a land-grab case inspired by the 2011 Bhatta Parsaul protests.

With Saurabh Shukla reprising his role as Judge Tripathi, the film combines humour, satire, and incisive commentary on India’s legal system, receiving acclaim for its performances and engaging narrative. Streaming exclusively on Netflix, the third season of Delhi Crime maintains the gripping realism that earned the show an International Emmy. Inspired by the 2012 “Baby Falak” case, this season investigates a disturbing human trafficking network. Shefali Shah returns as DIG Vartika Chaturvedi, with Rasika Dugal and Rajesh Tailang supporting her. This time, Huma Qureshi steps in as the formidable antagonist “Badi Didi.” Known for its emotional depth and procedural authenticity, the season is expected to deliver a tense and impactful storyline.

JioHotstar presents Avihitham, a black comedy-drama by Senna Hegde set in North Kerala. The film tells the story of a jobless man who misinterprets a neighbour’s interaction as an extramarital affair, igniting rampant gossip throughout the village. What starts as casual conversation escalates into a morality-driven endeavor by nosy locals aiming to “expose” the imagined couple. Featuring performances by Unni Raj and Renji Kankol, the film has been lauded for its dialect authenticity, satirical tone, and sharp critique of moral policing and small-town hypocrisy. Also on JioHotstar is Jurassic World Rebirth, the seventh entry in the iconic Jurassic Park franchise.

Directed by Gareth Edwards and written by David Koepp, the film showcases an entirely new cast, including Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey. Set five years after Jurassic World Dominion, it follows an extraction team sent to a remote island to retrieve dinosaur DNA for medical research. Their mission takes a perilous turn when a stranded family complicates matters, forcing them to contend with both the elements and lethal prehistoric creatures. Despite receiving mixed reviews—some critics believed the film strayed from its dinosaur-driven roots—it achieved massive global success, grossing over $868 million. Prime Video introduces the chaotic action-comedy Playdate, featuring Kevin James and Alan Ritchson.

The film centers on Brian, a newly unemployed accountant turned full-time dad, who befriends Jeff, an enigmatic stay-at-home father with a mysterious background. A simple playdate spirals into an action-packed chase involving mercenaries. Directed by Luke Greenfield and written by Neil Goldman, it stars Sarah Chalke and Alan Tudyk in supporting roles. Critics were largely unimpressed, citing uneven humour, though some audiences enjoyed its goofy, spoof-like style. Aha Video streams K-Ramp, a romantic comedy directed by Jains Nani that was released theatrically in October. The film stars Kiran Abbavaram as Kumar, a pampered youth sent to Kerala to reform his reckless behaviour. There, he encounters Mercy Joy, played by Yukti Thareja, who suffers from PTSD.

Kumar misreads her kindness as affection, but as he learns about her struggles, he is compelled to confront his own flaws. While Sai Kumar and Vennela Kishore provide dramatic and comic layers respectively, the film received mixed reviews—applauded for its performances but critiqued for its emotional execution. Nonetheless, it emerged as a surprise box-office success. ZEE5 offers viewers Jarann, a psychological thriller that garnered significant praise for Amruta Subhash’s outstanding performance. Written and directed by Hrishikesh Gupte, the film is set in a remote village rife with allegations of black magic and deep-rooted superstitions. Radha, portrayed by Subhash, grapples with resurfacing psychological issues as strange occurrences disturb the community.

The narrative blurs the boundary between mental instability and supernatural fear, building to a gripping and unforeseen climax. With Anita Date-Kelkar and Kishor Kadam in key roles, the film is available in Marathi and Telugu. With a diverse mix of genres and storytelling approaches, this week’s OTT releases promise compelling viewing across all major platforms, ensuring there is something for every type of audience.
