Jaipur, May 23 (). Police in Rajasthan registered an FIR against the driver of a vehicle that allegedly ran over four members of a family after BJP MP Kirori Lal Meena sat on a dharna outside DGP Umesh Mishra’s residence on Monday.
On Monday, Meena sat on a dharna along with the relatives of the deceased for not registering an FIR in the accident in Kothakwara.
Four people of a family coming from Haridwar after immersing bones in the Ganga died after being hit by a speeding vehicle resting under a tree.
The villagers staged a sit-in demanding registration of an FIR against the driver and compensation to the family.
However, the police had not registered an FIR till Monday.
On learning that Meena was sitting on a dharna, the police registered a case of murder against a jeep driver, who is reportedly absconding.
After the case was registered, the BJP leader along with the victim’s family members went to Kothakwara, where Meena and the administration discussed their demands.
Meena handed over Rs 2 lakh in cash to the victim’s family, while MLA Ved Prakash Solanki also announced his two months’ salary to the victim’s family.
A check of Rs 10 lakh was also handed over by the government, after which the relatives agreed to take the dead bodies home for the last rites.
It was also decided that a member of the deceased’s family should be given a job on contract and the family of the deceased should be given the benefit of various government schemes as well as accommodation under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
