Bengaluru, April 7 (). On World Health Day, health experts say that after the Kovid epidemic, more people are adopting preventive healthcare.
Dr. Nikhil Mathur, Group Chief, Medical Services, Care Hospitals Group, said that over the decades, preventive care in India has received far more attention than curative healthcare. However, a slow but visible change is being seen in the attitude of people towards preventive health care post-Covid.
He says that this important preventive health sector is expected to grow further and reach $97 billion by 2025, indicating the high inclination of people and health care brands towards preventive care.
Dr. Mathur said, more people with chronic and non-communicable diseases related to lifestyle and changing environmental conditions are adopting a preventive healthcare approach.
He further adds, “With early detection and correct diagnosis, prompt treatment is possible, which is not only effective in outcome but also halts further progression of the disease and can save money in the long run.”
Hence it is highly recommended, after the age of 35, that both men and women should undergo a full body health check-up from time to time to identify diseases like diabetes, heart disease, cancer and others. Necessary corrective and timely treatment should be taken.
Dr Aditya S Chowty, Senior Consultant, Fortis Hospital, Bengaluru said that preventive health care is the key to ensure the well-being of the people in the state.
Several measures can be taken to promote preventive health care in the region, he said. Health education and awareness campaigns can be conducted to educate people about the importance of healthy eating habits, regular exercise, stress management and preventive health check-ups.
These campaigns can be an effective way of spreading awareness and promoting healthy living. Vaccination is an important measure to prevent infectious diseases. Though the government has implemented several programs to increase vaccination coverage in the state, there is still a need to educate people about its importance and ensure that vaccines are available to all.
Regular health check-ups can help in early detection and treatment of diseases, he said. The government can encourage people to have regular health check-ups by offering incentives such as free or subsidized health check-ups.
He said, promoting a healthy lifestyle is essential to prevent chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension and heart disease. The government can create public spaces for physical activity, encourage the consumption of healthy food, and raise awareness of the harmful effects of smoking and alcohol consumption.
World Health Day is a global health awareness day observed every year on 7 April and sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO). The WHO is celebrating its 75th anniversary on Friday with its 194 member states and other partners calling for a renewed campaign for health equity.
