Collector urges officials to take action on road safety measures

District Collector Dr A Siri, accompanied by SP Vikrant Patil, led a road safety meeting at the Kurnool Collectorate on Wednesday, where she urged officials to implement stringent preventive measures aimed at decreasing road accidents throughout the district. During the District Road Safety Committee meeting, she assessed the safety conditions on key roads and highways. Dr Siri instructed the R&B and National Highways authorities from Kurnool, Anantapur, and Kadapa to set up barricades, rumble strips, and signage at all identified black spots within one month. She also mandated the completion of 147 illumination points in accident-prone areas and the construction of roads as proposed by the police.

Emphasizing the importance of regular clearing of bushes at blind spots, she called for the elimination of visibility-blocking dried trees and the prompt repair of poorly maintained medians on national highways. The deadline for the Ellamma Temple approach road was set for December 10. Furthermore, she instructed the Municipal Commissioner to revise and seek approval for the Outer Ring Road project connecting Peddapadu to Hyderabad NH and directed the swift development of Ulchala and Gayatri Estate junctions, widening of the road from Kids World to the Collectorate, and completion of outstanding beautification tasks. Dr Siri also urged the Transport Department to advise auto drivers against overloading.

She pointed out the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund, which offers cashless treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakh within seven days for accident victims, and encouraged wider promotion of the Raah-Veer scheme, which provides up to Rs 25,000 to Good Samaritans assisting victims during the critical first hour. In response, SP Vikrant Patil ordered immediate lighting along the route from Pista House to Delhi Public School, reconstruction of the damaged divider at Chinna Tekur, and remediation of the dangerous two-kilometre U-turn on Orvakal Road. Senior officials from various departments, including R&B, Municipal Administration, Panchayat Raj, National Highways, RTC, and Transport, participated in the meeting.
