Two police officers injured during stone throwing in Etah

A police constable and a home guard jawan were injured when they were suddenly targeted by stone pelting in Chaman Nagariya village of Etah district while responding to a report of a dispute, reportedly over a mobile phone, between two groups. Police indicated that six individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident as of Wednesday. Among those arrested, two suspects have been identified as Dilshad and Salman. Officials stated that an altercation erupted between the two groups in the village on Tuesday, prompting villagers to notify the police, leading to a DIAL-112 team being dispatched to the scene to diffuse the situation. As the officers began their inquiries, a crowd formed, escalating tensions.

A video purportedly capturing the incident is circulating online, depicting a heated exchange between the arrested individuals and the police. Aliganj Circle Officer Nitish Garg reported that while the two officers were assessing the circumstances, some individuals began to throw bricks and stones, resulting in injuries to home guard jawan Prempal and constable Pankaj. The suspects also caused damage to the police vehicle, the officer noted. Aliganj SHO Nirdosh Sengar informed PTI that during the interrogation, Dilshad claimed that Salman attacked him over the mobile phone dispute. ‘As the police team attempted to mediate, both parties accused the police of unnecessarily intervening.

At that moment, a man named Shan Mohammad arrived and confronted the police, which further heightened tensions,’ he explained. Upon receiving the report, Garg arrived at the village with reinforcements. ‘The team managed to control the situation and detained six individuals, including Dilshad and Salman, who were subsequently arrested,’ Sengar added. Additional Superintendent of Police Shravanak Pandey stated that extra forces were deployed in the village to avert further incidents, and efforts are ongoing to locate others involved.
