In Visakhapatnam, Smriti Mandhana, the world’s top-ranked ODI batter, made history on Sunday by becoming the first woman cricketer globally to score 1000 runs in a calendar year in Women’s ODIs. During her 18th ODI of 2025 against Australia, Mandhana required 18 runs to reach the 1000-run milestone, which she achieved by hitting a six off Sophie Molineux on the third ball of the eighth over. Previously, in India’s third match of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, Mandhana surpassed the record set by former Australian player Belinda Clark for the most runs in a calendar year in women’s ODIs. Clark had scored 970 runs in 16 ODIs for the Southern Stars in 1997.
Additionally, if Mandhana scores at least 58 runs in the ongoing match against Australia, she will also reach 5000 runs in women’s ODIs. Currently, only four players have exceeded 5000 runs in this format, led by former India captain Mithali Raj, who accumulated 7805 runs over her 23-year career from 1999 to 2022 in 232 ODIs. She is followed by Charlotte Edwards from England, Suzie Bates from New Zealand, and Stafanie Taylor from the West Indies.
