South African Tourism has launched the fifth edition of its key corporate engagement initiative, Corporate Think Tank, with the first event taking place in Hyderabad. This event gathered over 25 participants for a unique opportunity for dialogue and collaboration. The initiative, designed as a series spanning four cities, aims to bolster partnerships between South African Tourism and India’s corporate sector. Through enlightening discussions, destination showcases, and interactive networking, Corporate Think Tank serves as a strategic platform to assess South Africa’s potential as a prime destination for business events, MICE, and leisure travel. Hyderabad has become a central focus for South African Tourism, driven by its dynamic multinational presence and increasing outbound travel potential.
The corporate ecosystem in the city, which includes sectors such as IT, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare, positions Hyderabad as a vital source market for MICE travel. During the recent Corporate Think Tank event led by Ms. Deepika Nair, Acting Trade Manager, positive discussions underscored South Africa’s enhanced status as a preferred MICE hub, supported by improved connectivity from direct flights from India and streamlined visa processes, including quicker approvals within five working days and initiatives like the Trusted Tour Operators Scheme. These advancements are facilitating smoother travel for Indian businesses. Mr.
Gcobani Mancotywa, Regional General Manager for Asia, Australia, and the Middle East at South African Tourism, stated, “The Corporate Think Tank is crucial for understanding the changing needs of Indian businesses and streamlining their incentive travel planning.” He expressed satisfaction with the strong turnout as they commence this year’s series in Hyderabad, a city rich in potential for global business travel. The discussions have been very encouraging, and there is excitement about the prospects of hosting corporate events and meetings in South Africa. With India ranking as one of their fastest-growing markets, Hyderabad’s corporate sector is poised to significantly contribute to South Africa’s MICE growth.
Considering that 47% of India’s population is presently aged 15 to 54, MICE is anticipated to increase to 60% by 2025 and 56% by 2050. Corporate expenditure on international events, coupled with expanding infrastructure and improved global connectivity, is set to elevate India into a global MICE powerhouse, making South Africa a natural partner in this ascent. This growth is driven by India’s rapidly expanding outbound travel market, the second fastest-growing globally after China, fueled by a youthful and educated demographic, a burgeoning middle class, and rising disposable incomes.
South Africa has become a premier destination for MICE travel from India, offering a wide range of experiences from over 3,000 adventure activities and iconic wildlife safaris to scenic road trips and breathtaking natural landscapes, all accessible within a week. The Rainbow Nation’s capacity to provide rewarding, cost-effective, and value-oriented experiences has established it as a leading choice for Indian corporations seeking unforgettable incentive trips, with South African Tourism consistently reinforcing its reputation as a reliable partner in this domain.
