New Delhi, April 18 (). The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to Gujarat Trinamool Congress spokesperson Saket Gokhale in a case related to alleged misappropriation of funds raised through crowdfunding.
Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju told Justice B.R. Gavai and Vikram Nath strongly opposed Gokhale’s bail application, but the judges noted that a charge sheet has already been filed in the matter.
Keeping in view the nature of the allegation and the charge sheet has already been filed, we are inclined to grant bail, the bench said in its order.
The bench said, the petitioner is directed to be released on bail in respect of the FIR lodged in Cybercrime PS Ahmedabad City.
In January this year, the Gujarat High Court had denied bail to Gokhale. He was arrested from Delhi on December 28, 2022 by the Ahmedabad Police under sections 120B, 420, 467,471 of the IPC.
Gokhale moved the apex court challenging the High Court order.
According to the FIR, Gokhale who allegedly claimed that he was an RTI activist and a social worker on his various social media platforms raised more than one crore rupees by filing RTI for public purposes but including personal luxuries and lavishness Used the money for other livelihood purposes.
