Tamil Nadu: Petition in the Supreme Court against the decision to build a 134 feet tall pen statue New Delhi, May 23 (). Tamil Nadu’s decision to erect a 134-feet tall pen statue at Marina Beach has been challenged in the Supreme Court.

K.K., a resident of Madurai in the state. The petition filed by Ramesh states: Experts are of the opinion that the devastating floods in Tamil Nadu in recent years are a result of uncontrolled construction activities and unethical trespassing along the seashore. That’s why the construction of the statue on the beach should be stopped.

The plea states that the area where the respondents have carried out the construction activities is a part of the sea with tidal influence and construction activities in those areas are strictly prohibited under the provisions of the CRZ notification.

Advocate C.R. The petition filed by Jaya Sukin said, uncontrolled construction activities in these areas would have a devastating effect on the natural water flow, which could result in severe natural calamities.

The petition sought a direction to the apex court to ban the burial of any mortal remains in all coastal areas of all states in India and to set aside the Tamil Nadu government’s decision to erect a 134 feet tall Kalam statue at Marina Beach Is.

The petition said, the state government did not approach the Madras High Court for permission to construct the 134-feet tall pen statue inside Marina Beach near Kalaignar Karunanidhi Memorial. All departments of the state government violated laws and court orders by giving clearance certificates in a hurried manner.

The petition states that Chennai has enough land to build a memorial across the city, but the construction of the Rs 80 crore monument on the beach will affect the marina ecosystem and marine life.

The petition states that the fishermen associations and communities have also objected to that memorial. He has written a letter to the state government as well as the central government. The pen-shaped monument will be accessible through a 360-metre-long bridge over the sea and will impact the sea, its ecosystem. It is harmful to the environment and will cause long term damage.

The petition has also sought a direction to stop any construction work or alternative work or any development work in the coastal areas of all the states.
