Chennai, May 9 (). The Tamil Nadu Police on Tuesday seized three mobile phones, a tablet, a laptop and a modem during a search and raid at a special camp for foreign nationals located near Tiruchi Central Jail.
Around 300 policemen were involved in the search operation led by two DCP-rank officers.
A similar raid was conducted on July 22 last year as well. During that time several incriminating documents linking them to an international drugs cartel, mobile phones and tablets were seized from the prisoners. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had arrested nine people during the raids on July 22.
Police sources told that the raid was carried out on the basis of information about the presence of narcotics in the camp.
Now LTTE is trying to reorganize itself and Tamil Nadu has become a major hotspot for its revival process. Santukam alias Sabesan (47), a former LTTE intelligence operative, was arrested in October 2021 in a case related to smuggling of drugs, arms and ammunition. The drugs, arms and ammunition were recovered off the coast of Vizhinjam in the Arabian Sea in Kerala.
