New Delhi, March 31 (). Describing terrorism as a matter of concern for both India and Israel, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has said that the joint strategy of the two countries will give a new direction to the world in the fight against terrorism.
Welcoming the Israeli parliamentary delegation led by Amir Ohana, Speaker of Israel’s Knesset (Parliament) to India at the joint invitation of Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Birla said that Israel and India There have traditionally been close and friendly relations. Both India and Israel have a strong democratic heritage and as fellow democracies, the two countries have many commonalities, including respecting diverse cultures, following democratic values and working according to the hopes and aspirations of the people. He emphasized that the relationship between India and Israel has become more important in the changing global scenario.
Talking about the growing menace of terrorism, Birla said that terrorism is a matter of concern for both India and Israel. Democratic countries like India and Israel should increase cooperation in the fight against terrorism. He also said that the joint strategy of India and Israel will give a new direction to the world in the fight against terrorism.
Referring to the Jewish community settled in India, Birla said that India has always supported the Jews and provided them a safe environment. He also said that Jews have contributed significantly to the development of India.
Noting the strong parliamentary ties between the two parliaments, Birla expressed happiness over the formation of a Parliamentary Friendship Group for India in the Knesset and also stressed that the two parliaments should work together in international fora and collectively An action plan should be prepared on the basis of discussion and dialogue. He further suggested that both the Parliaments should share their experiences, best practices and technology to deal with global challenges and ensure mutually beneficial outcomes in different situations.
Noting that regular high-level visits between the two countries have continued over the years, the Lok Sabha Speaker said that since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Israel in 2017 and then Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to India in 2018, India Israel relations have become stronger.
Talking about the popularity of India as a tourist destination for Israeli youth, Birla said that there should be more travel and tourism between the two countries and more people from Israel come to India. He expressed confidence that India-Israel friendship will continue to set new records of mutual cooperation in the coming decades.
Speaking on the occasion, Israel’s Parliament Speaker Amir Ohana said that both India and Israel are old civilizations and ties between the two countries have grown stronger over time. Referring to the progress being made in India, he said that India is moving ahead at an extraordinary pace in all fields and hoped that the bilateral relations between India and Israel would grow stronger and both the countries would together tackle global challenges. An MoU was also signed on the occasion to enhance cooperation between the Parliaments of the two countries. Members of the Israeli parliamentary delegation also paid homage at the tomb of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.
Let us tell you that this Israeli parliamentary delegation is on a visit to India from 31st March to 4th April 2023. Israel’s Knesset (Parliament) Speaker Amir Ohana, who is leading the parliamentary delegation, is on his first foreign trip as speaker after taking over.
