Thiruvananthapuram, April 28 (). Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Friday, a fellow MP from Kerala P.T. Usha has expressed displeasure over her statement regarding the ongoing protests by Indian wrestlers in New Delhi.
Demanding action against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for alleged sexual harassment of women wrestlers, some of the country’s top wrestlers are protesting at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. These include bigwigs like Olympic medalists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik and Asian and Commonwealth Games medalist Vinesh Phogat.
Presently nominated member of Rajya Sabha and recently appointed President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), P.T. Usha had said that there is an athletes’ commission in the IOA and instead of going on the streets, the wrestlers could have gone to the commission. Due to his comment, he is facing criticism from many people.
Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram Tharoor tweeted: Dear P.T. Usha, it does not behove you to belittle the legitimate protest of your fellow players who have been subjected to repeated and blatant sexual harassment. Their fight for their rights does not tarnish the image of the nation; Ignoring their concerns rather than listening to them, investigating them and taking appropriate action.
