Mirzapur, May 24 (). Three people have been arrested in connection with the rape and forced conversion of a married woman in Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh. Police said that it was a case of love jihad. The main accused duped the woman by posing as a Hindu and later raped her. The accused has been identified as Arif Khan.
As per the victim’s complaint, she received a call from an unknown person, who introduced himself as Abhay Mishra. He continued talking to her and later the closeness increased.
On March 24, when the woman went to her maternal home in Mirzapur, Arif also reached there. After this he took her to Ambala.
On reaching Ambala, the woman discovers Arif Khan’s true religious identity, this leads to a confrontation between them.
The woman said in her complaint that Arif forcibly confined her for 25 days and sexually assaulted her.
He also videotaped it and used the video footage to blackmail her.
According to the police, the accused also forced the woman to offer Namaz, wear a burqa and celebrate Eid by keeping her captive.
The incident came to light when the victim managed to escape and the woman and her husband lodged a complaint against Arif with the Mirzapur police.
Apart from Arif, the police have also arrested his brother Imroz Khan and friend Shahabuddin.
These arrests were made by conducting raids in several states including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan.
According to Superintendent of Police Santosh Mishra, it was a case of love jihad, the police is actively probing the matter.
The officer assured that appropriate action would be taken in the matter.
