Agartala, March 30 (). Tripura’s ruling BJP MLA Jadab Lal Debnath was caught on camera watching a pornographic video on his mobile phone during the assembly session.
BJP Tripura state president Rajib Bhattacharya told that the party would soon issue a notice to him seeking an explanation. A video of Nath watching during the session has gone viral on social media, drawing sharp criticism and calls for action against the MLA.
According to the purported viral video, the MLA was watching some obscene material on his mobile phone. The first three-day session of the newly constituted Tripura Legislative Assembly was held on 24 March and 27–28 March.
Criticizing the BJP MLA, Leader of Opposition Animesh Debbarma said that all legislators are responsible persons and their acts should not set a bad example for others, especially the younger generations. Debbarma demanded appropriate action against the MLA.
The CPI(M) and the Congress also criticized Nath and demanded strict action against him. On the other hand, Congress leader Birjit Sinha said that the operation of mobile phones inside the assembly is prohibited. We all should pay attention to the proceedings and functioning of the House, yet Nath watched the obscene video damaging the reputation of the House.
He said that if there is even an iota of morality in the BJP, it should take action against Nath. When contacted by , the BJP MLA denied the allegation.
He further said that I will talk to the Speaker (Biswabandhu Sen) and the State Party President (Rajib Bhattacharya) and then I will take the next step. Nath was first elected to the state assembly from the Bagbasa seat in North Tripura in the assembly elections held on 16 February. The 55-year-old leader is also the secretary of the Tripura state unit of the BJP.
