Panaji, March 31 (). Amid two incidents of foreign women tourists being assaulted by hotel staff within a week, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has asked hoteliers to obtain Goa labor cards and check their criminal records (if any) before hiring staff. asked to do.
On Thursday, 27-year-old Abhishek Verma, a native of Uttarakhand, was arrested for assaulting a foreign female tourist staying at the same resort, who was working as a bartender at the resort in Pernem-North Goa.
Sawant said Verma has been arrested and the police is probing the matter.
Hoteliers should get Goa labor cards for their employees while hiring them, Sawant said in the ongoing assembly session. This will help in keeping their permanent address safe with the Labor Department. Do not include employees with criminal records. We have seen that hotel staff are involved in such crimes. Police is investigating this matter.
Sawant said, such incidents should not happen. Police is taking action, but hoteliers should also take measures.
North Goa Superintendent of Police Nidhin Valson said, “According to the police, on Wednesday night the accused person barged into the rented tent of the complainant (a foreign female tourist) and later created a ruckus.” Thereafter, the accused tried to hold him and threatened him. When she screamed for help, a local (Eurico Dias) came to her rescue, following which the accused fled. Thereafter, the accused person returned with a knife and attacked the local person who came to the rescue of the complainant with a knife, also attacked the tourist with a knife and fled from the spot.
The complainant and the local person were admitted to the hospital for treatment. The Pernem police have registered a case under various sections of the IPC.
The knife used to commit the crime has been recovered, Valson said.
Chief Minister Sawant said that Yuriko Dias, a local person who saved the complainant, would be rewarded.
Sawant said, he (Dias) is hospitalized and out of danger. I congratulate him for saving the life of that woman and for this my government will reward him.
Earlier, on March 25, two men from Assam and Jharkhand, respectively, working as a waiter and electrician at a hotel in North Goa, were arrested for allegedly assaulting and trying to rob a Russian national in the hotel room. it was done.
