Nagpur, April 26 (). A traffic policeman in Nagpur has been suspended after a video of him allegedly demanding and taking a bribe from a woman scooter driver went viral, officials said on Wednesday.
The incident took place on Tuesday morning at Tukdoji intersection in Ajni when the traffic policeman on duty stopped the woman, wearing a yellow dupatta but not wearing a helmet as per rules.
The policeman, identified as Kishor Dukhande, attached with the Ajni traffic police, can be seen arguing with the woman, who protested adamantly as Dukhande threatened her with a fine for the offence.
Dukhande allegedly demanded Rs 1,000 or threatened him with a challan to drop him, saying he had noted down the scooter’s registration number. After some more argument, the woman finally gave up and asked her companion to hand over the bribe amount of Rs.300 to the policeman.
Meanwhile, some unknown person nearby quietly shot the entire incident with a mobile phone and made it viral on social media. After a strong reaction from the public, the Nagpur Police has suspended Dukhande and started an investigation against him.
