New Delhi, May 25 (). A social activist and Atal Jan Shakti Party chief has filed a false allegation of sexual harassment in a Delhi court against wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik, who have accused Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Criminal complaint has been filed.
Furthermore, the complaint alleges that the protesters were involved in speaking hate speech against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The matter is scheduled to come up for hearing on Thursday before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at Patiala House Court.
Petitioner Bam Bam Maharaj Nauhatia challenged the credibility of the allegations leveled against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh by the accused persons.
The plea contends that the allegations lack truth and are not motivated by any genuine concern, but by potential influence or personal gain.
Advocates representing the complainant A.P. Singh presented the plea, which states: The accused are internationally recognized wrestlers, having physical strength and financial stability. It is hard to believe that he could be bothered by Singh, a 66-year-old man.
Furthermore, the plea highlights the absence of any formal protest or filing of a written or oral First Information Report (FIR) by any of the wrestlers involved.
The petition states that the wrestlers did not approach relevant authorities such as police stations, women helplines, state women’s commissions, the ministry of women’s welfare and the Indian Olympic Association, which have offices in Delhi and other states.
Further, the petition argues that the protest organized by the wrestlers at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, in an attempt to achieve the desired result, has put unnecessary pressure on the police and the court system.
The plea states that during the protest organized by the wrestlers at Jantar Mantar, as per the telecast aired on national news channels, a highly inflammatory slogan was raised openly.
The plea said that while the slogan was an example of hate speech, the language used by the protesters clearly spelled out threats to PM Modi’s life.
The petition stresses that as per the recent judgments of the Supreme Court, hate speech is not only a legal offense but also a serious offence.
Further, the petition states that the false allegations and the activities carried out by the accused wrestlers at the protest site have seriously tarnished the character of the WFI chief.
