Chennai, April 18 (). To strengthen the Thevar vote bank, former chief minister and ousted AIADMK coordinator O. AMMK to hold a meeting with Panneerselvam (OPS).
South Tamil Nadu’s powerful Thevar community OPS, V.K. Trying to iron out differences between Sasikala and her nephew and AMMK general secretary TTV Dhinakaran. The discussion AMMK is having with OPS is a part of this initiative by the community.
The Thevar community has been a traditional support base of the AIADMK and there is a feeling in the community that the party has lost two prominent community leaders, O. Panneerselvam and V.K. Sasikala has been sidelined.
In the 2019 election, the AIADMK-led NDA won the lone Lok Sabha seat from Tamil Nadu, where O. Panneerselvam’s son O. Ravindranathan, veteran Congress leader and current former Erode MLA E.V.K.S. Won the seat by defeating Elangovan.
With OPS and Sasikala pulling out of AIADMK, there is a feeling among Thevar community that the community should not go behind AIADMK in the next general elections and instead support AMMK, a political party completely controlled by Thevar community. There is a team.
Due to this thinking of the Thevar community, AMMK has planned a meeting with the veteran leader OPS. The meeting is scheduled to take place in Madurai in South Tamil Nadu and will outline the finer points of cooperation between OPS and Sasikala, how it can make a big impact in the 2024 general elections.
Sources in AMMK told that the party is open to discussions with OPS and the presence of such a tall leader in AMMK will boost its prospects in the entire South Tamil Nadu belt.
There have been several meetings between the Thevar community people and the OPS as well as TTV Dhinakaran and Sasikala. According to insiders privy to the discussions, the OPS is likely to ally with the AMMK during the coming Lok Sabha elections, dealing a major blow to the AIADMK’s prospects in South Tamil Nadu.
