Political Tensions Rise in Bihar Following Fatal Shooting of Party Worker

Tensions flared in Bihar after the shooting death of Dularchand Yadav, a supporter of the Jan Suraaj Party, in the Mokama area of Patna on Thursday. The incident took place during an election campaign when gunfire erupted, resulting in Yadav’s death. Patna SSP Kartikeya K Sharma mentioned that the exact cause of death is still unknown as the police have not yet received the body. Authorities are waiting to confirm if Yadav succumbed to bullet wounds or another cause. According to another official, Yadav was actively campaigning for Jan Suraaj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi when the incident occurred.

The Mokama constituency is currently facing a high-profile electoral battle between JD(U)’s Anant Singh and RJD’s Veena Devi, the wife of disqualified leader Surajbhan Singh. Voting is set for November 6. Jan Suraaj Party president Manoj Bharti condemned the killing as an assault on democracy, accusing rival factions of instilling fear to manipulate votes. He denounced the violence against Priyadarshi’s convoy as “a heinous crime.” Party founder Prashant Kishor stated that senior leaders are closely monitoring developments on the ground. Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav criticized the state’s declining law and order situation, calling on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take action. “The murder raises serious questions about governance in Bihar,” he remarked.

Assembly elections are scheduled for November 6 and 11, with results to be announced on November 14.
