UIDAI Introduces New Framework for Aadhaar's Future Development

In New Delhi, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) announced on Friday that it has initiated a thorough strategic and technological review to guide the evolution of Aadhaar over the next decade through a new framework called ‘Aadhaar Vision 2032,’ acknowledging the swiftly changing technological and regulatory environment. The Ministry of Electronics and IT stated that this proactive roadmap aims to enhance Aadhaar’s technological infrastructure, incorporate emerging digital innovations, and ensure that India’s digital identity platform remains strong, inclusive, and prepared for the future.

The ministry noted, “UIDAI’s technology stack, which serves as the backbone of Aadhaar services and facilitates our digital economy, is poised for a significant upgrade.” To oversee this ambitious initiative, UIDAI has formed a high-level Expert Committee chaired by Neelkanth Mishra, UIDAI Chairperson. This committee comprises distinguished experts and leaders from academia, industry, and administration who will provide strategic guidance on bolstering Aadhaar’s innovation path. The committee will create the Aadhaar Vision 2032 document, detailing the framework for the next-generation Aadhaar architecture in line with India’s Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, as well as emerging global standards in privacy and cybersecurity.

According to the ministry, the Aadhaar Vision 2032 framework will concentrate on utilizing advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, Quantum Computing, Advanced Encryption, and next-generation Data Security protocols. These advancements will ensure Aadhaar’s resilience against evolving cybersecurity threats, scalability for future needs, and adaptability to the rapidly transforming digital landscape. The committee also includes Bhuvnesh Kumar, CEO of UIDAI; Vivek Raghavan, Co-Founder of Sarvam AI; Dheeraj Pandey, Founder of Nutanix; Sasikumar Ganesan, Head of Engineering at MOSIP; Rahul Matthan, Partner at Trilegal; Navin Budhiraja, CTO and Head of Products at Vianai Systems; Prabaharan Poornachandran from Amrita University; Anil Jain from Michigan State University; Mayank Vatsa from IIT Jodhpur; and Shri Abhishek Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General of UIDAI.
