Microsoft is testing a feature in Windows 11 that connects smartphones and PCs more effectively. This new capability enables users to continue using Android apps directly on their computers, starting with Spotify as the initial application. The feature is currently available to Windows Insiders in the Dev and Beta Channels. To utilize it, users must connect their Android device to their PC. When a song is playing on Spotify’s mobile application, Windows 11 presents a notification that says ‘Resume from your phone’ along with a ‘Continue on this PC’ option. Selecting this will either open the Spotify desktop application or prompt the user to install it, allowing for seamless playback continuation.
Microsoft first showcased this feature during a demo at Build 2025, which has since been removed from public view. Its operation is akin to Apple’s Handoff, which facilitates activity switching across devices such as iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches. Although the company has not announced plans for broader app support, the intention is evident: to expand this continuity feature to other tasks, such as reading or composing emails. If successful, it could emerge as one of the most useful cross-device functionalities in Windows 11. For now, Spotify users can get a preview of what could be a significant advancement in Microsoft’s efforts for better device integration.
