Punjab Police said on firing at Bathinda Military Station, it is not a terrorist attack

Chandigarh, April 12 (). Four army personnel were killed in a firing incident inside the military station in Punjab’s Bathinda, one of the largest defense establishments of the country. The Indian Army gave this information on Wednesday. However, the local police clarified that it was not a terror attack.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) South Western Command confirmed the incident of firing, which took place inside the station at 4.35 am on Wednesday.

The PRO said in a statement that Military Station Quick Reaction Teams have been alerted and the area has been cordoned off and sealed.

He said, four people have been reported dead in the firing incident. Further details are being ascertained.

Bathinda’s Senior Superintendent of Police Gulneet Singh Khurana told the media, it was not a terror attack. There seems to be some internal developments in the military station.

He said police teams are at the spot to investigate and assist local military authorities.

Initial reports said that the incident appeared to be a personal fight. Sources said that an INSAS rifle and some rounds of ammunition from the unit had gone missing from the unit premises in the recent past.

The military station at Bathinda is the headquarters of 10 Corps, which comes under the jurisdiction of the Jaipur-based South Western Command in Rajasthan.

The military station is situated on the Chandigarh-Fazilka section along the National Highway-7 which leads to Rajasthan.
