Police Arrests Woman for Alleged Gold Ring Theft

The Delhi Police apprehended a 34-year-old woman for allegedly stealing a gold ring from a jewelry store in Laxmi Nagar during the Diwali celebrations, according to officials on Thursday. The suspect, identified as Poonam Yadav from Kanpur, is believed to be part of an interstate group of female thieves involved in various gold heists throughout Delhi-NCR. On October 19, amidst the bustling crowds of the Laxmi Nagar market, three women entered a jewelry shop and made off with a 5.4-gram gold ring. The incident was recorded by CCTV cameras, and the footage went viral on social media, prompting a police investigation. An e-FIR was filed, and several teams were assembled to identify and capture the suspects.

Police scrutinized the CCTV footage and gathered human intelligence, which led them to the gang’s base in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Following specific leads, a police team conducted a raid in Village Chakwa Khurd in Etawah on October 28, resulting in the arrest of Poonam Yadav, who was subsequently brought to Delhi for further questioning. During the interrogation, Yadav disclosed that she and her accomplices from Kanpur had executed similar thefts in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk and Gurugram.
