Ekta Nagar: On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel aimed to fully integrate Kashmir into India, similar to his efforts with other princely states, but this vision was hindered by then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Speaking at the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas parade held at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat’s Ekta Nagar, Modi remarked, “Sardar Patel sought to unite all of Kashmir, but Nehru ji obstructed his aspirations.
As a result, Kashmir was partitioned, provided with a separate Constitution and flag, and the nation endured decades of suffering due to Congress’ error.” Modi emphasized Patel’s significant contribution to uniting over 550 princely states following Independence and noted that the Iron Man of India actualized the concept of ‘One India, Excellent India.’ He quoted Patel’s belief that one should focus on creating history rather than merely documenting it. The Prime Minister further stressed the necessity for a “decisive fight against infiltrators,” encouraging citizens to commit on National Unity Day to combat infiltration and safeguard India’s unity and security. Modi affirmed the government’s dedication to eradicating Naxalism and Maoism, insisting that efforts will persist until both are eliminated.
He criticized Congress for maintaining a “slave mentality” inherited from colonial times and stated that India is actively dismantling remnants of its colonial past. Earlier, Modi oversaw the National Unity Day parade, which featured contingents of police and paramilitary forces entirely led by women officers. Various units from the BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB, and multiple state police forces participated, along with an NCC contingent. The event also included presentations from BSF gallantry award recipients of Operation Sindoor, an impressive aerial display by the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team, a motorcycle stunt show by Assam Police, and a camel-mounted band from the BSF. Ten tableaux from different states and central forces illustrated the theme of unity in diversity.
